SPA and talassotherapy

Modern pace of living in a big city often leads to stress, chronic fatigue, insomnia, frequent flue and other health problems. And when, finally, a long-expected vacation comes, we try to use it both for recreation and rehabilitation. Many SPA and thalassotherapy centers around the world are called upon satisfying our needs.

From the ancient times people learn to use beneficial properties of sea and mineral water. We know the abbreviation SPA since the times of ancient Rome (it derives from Latin “Sanus per Aquam” which means “health with the help of water”). Today SPA is a complex of procedures which use any water i.e. mineral, sea, fresh water as well seaweed and salts, medical mud and medicinal herbs. SPA components stir up the metabolism, stimulate blood circulation, egest toxins out of the body, improve overall well-being.

One of the basic SPA trends is thalassotherapy (the name derives from Greek “thalassa”- sea, “therapy” – treatment), which makes use of sea water, sea medical mud, sand and sea climate for medical purposes. Saturated by negative ions sea air boosts the immune system, has a positive effect on thyroid gland, stimulates a body stress resistance and extra fat control. Sea water and seaweed are rich in minerals, microelements and plankton. For thalassotherapy procedures water is taken directly from the sea, heated up to 23є C and used within 24 hours in order to preserve its health-giving properties.

The first experiment of using sea water for medicinal purposes dates back to antiquity. But only in 1897 a biologist Rene Kentone established an analogy between sea water and plasma blood. In 1899 doctor Lui Bagault confirmed the beneficial effect of thalassotherapy using it for treatment of joint pains and rheumatism. He founded the first center of thalassotherapy in France in Roskof. Later the centers of thalassotherapy spread the world over and gained an extraordinary popularity.

Many hotels were opened lately on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, in Antalya, with well-equipped SPA centers and centers of thalassotherapy located in the territory. They offer a variety of treatments: baths with sea water, sea inhalations and aerosols, wetting with sea water, showers, underwater massage, aqua gym, mud and seaweed therapy (algaetherapy): envelopments and applications, cosmetics masks and seaweed baths. There are pools with sea water, Turkish baths, saunas, cosmetics and massage cabinets, beauty salons in each rehabilitation centre (some of them equipped with solariums).

Traditional water treatments are accompanied by physiotherapeutic procedures: hot envelopments (herb, peat, clay, mud), oxygen therapy, inhalation. Various types of massage (medicinal, classic, Thai, Indian, shiatsu, anti cellulites, oil), aromatherapy, acupuncture, flower therapy, therapy with hot stones, cosmetology, beauty treatments are at your disposal.

The hotels of Antalya offer various procedures of rehabilitation: programs for weight loss, anti-stress programs, rheumatism treatment. All procedures are controlled by experienced doctors in thalasso- and hydro therapy sphere.

It is necessary to mention that its location in the world-renowned resort promotes relaxation and rehabilitation: picturesque landscape, pure mountain air, pine-woods, mild climate and, of course, luxurious hotels where cozy atmosphere reigns and everything makes for absolute relaxation.

The main advantages of Turkish rehabilitation complexes as compared with well-known international SPA and thalassotherapy centers are more reasonable prices with up-keeping of high quality standards. Give a treat to yourself! Come to Antalya and care and attention will be lavished on you!
